My best bet at becoming a master is to get a dog. But I have a cat instead. Or maybe I should say that with a cat, I am not sure if I am a master. Oh well. Another idea is to provide masts for ships.
Isn't the word "master" an interesting one though. It designates a male, nearly by itself in a sexist sense, but in many of its connotations; then loses them swiftly as anyone can make a masterpiece or get a masters degree. It also has those slavery connotations, but loses them when someone masters a skill, becoming a master.
Ha ha ha Rus, now you got me thinking. I was actually blushing when Frank said I am now a master (and not that I now have a master's degree) because to my mind, the word master is synonymous with Henry James. Well, i am not so sure about its being sexist or politically incorrect. I think we are in mortal danger of losing our ability to enjoy words because of all this heavy duty baggage!
