After Mass this morning, our pastor told us that the Pope had requested that those of us who got ashes for Ash Wednesday take a selfie and show it around. Here's mine.
The painting is by Daniel Murphy, a college classmate of mine and also a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. It is a fantasy based on rocks and other things observed in the desert of southern Utah. It is exceedingly well painted.
I thought a man eccentric when I saw him taking a selfie on the steps of St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington yesterday evening. I didn't know that he was acting on the the Pope's request.
May you have a wonder-filled Lenten season. And so say something about the picture on the wall behind you.
