    Love the poem/essay, John! I remember your enthusiasm for the intrepid coyote in NYC, too.

    But I fear it is the weedy species -- as David Quammen so aptly put it -- that will survive and thrive, and they are not the loveliest: Roach, ragweed, vole, human.
