Chronicling the overrated …

… Neil deGrasse Tyson and the Science of Smug Condescension.



If Tyson seems bemused about criticism of his fabrications and doesn’t take it seriously, he’s telling us that he sees himself as a showman. We’re not supposed to ask whether the events he talks about are real, fictional, or embellished, we’re just supposed to enjoy the show 
It’s that crucial scientific principle of suspension of disbelief.

  1. Hi Frank, I just wanted to raise one point. Hot water is lighter than cold water. Might that explain why the surface temperatures are more?

  2. It might have some bearing, but heat still dissipates, as the Second Law indicates. The overall problem is that climate is a chaotic system regarding which what we know is a fraction of what might be known. Also, the primary business of science is to understand, not to prophesy.
