Michelle Lovric: The Remedy . I reviewed Lovric's
The Floating Book a couple of years ago and thought it was great. Can't understand how this new one eluded me, since it came out in December. I may track it down and review it anyway.
Frank,
ReplyDeleteThanks for placing the Michelle Lovric string on your site. You reviewed my book, also set in Venice, - The Lion of St. Mark, back in September 2005. I think the fundamental problem faced by authors who have yet to "catch fire" is twofold: first, the publisher is not willing to invest in serious (or any) marketing and second, the publisher doesn't achieve effective retail distribution, as was the case with my book. Simply stated, readers' emails and reviews show the book has merit and great potential but hardly anyone knows it's out there.
That's why I appreciated, so much, your actions to give books like mine a helping hand. In my opinion, that illustrates the power a book editor can wield to level the playing field for first time authors like me. Thanks for doing your job so well.
Thanks for the compliments. My MO is simple: I think I serve readers. So I keep my eye out for books I think will interest them and that they might not hear of otherwise.
