Saint Oscar (cont'd) ...

Kevin at Collected Miscellany discusses The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I myself would not call it a conservative book, but rather a moral book. And the morality is distinctly Catholic. Again, the book to read in this regard is Ellis Hanson's Decadence and Catholicism.

  1. I found myself with a similar reaction to The Picture of Dorian Gray. I was quite shocked by it, actually, since it seemed to attack the very sort of lifestyle Wilde led/advocated, long before his disgrace and downfall might have logically induced this sort of reaction in him. Fascinating.
