The last time ...

... I linked to something like this, all hell broke loose: Why Women Aren't Funny. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

But Dorothy Parker was funny. And Fanny Brice was funny. And Lucille Ball. This must be wrong.

  1. I haven't read that post, but Jane Austen was funny and, in the crime-fiction world, Janet Evanovich has dragged a laugh or two out of me.

  2. Let's just talk about the woamn of the species in general.

If you're of the ilk that thinks that women aren't funny...I'd say..."You want to know why? (then I'd hold up a mirror in front of them and say)"Look what they have to deal with."

LOL...I crack myself up. See...we women think we're funny!

And you guys better think that way about your wives, if you want a reasonably happy life...LOL!

  3. Bonnie, you're not only funny - you've just given all of us husbands very good advice.

Instantly, off the top of my head: Molly Ivins, Mary Roach, Lorrie Moore, Eve Ensler, Whoopi Goldberg, Lynda Barry....

This is another lame male v. female straw(wo)man argument (like the last one that led to my conflagration -- straw does burn easily and well!).

I think the author of this essay says it all when he says men will laugh uproariously if someone says "self-defecation" when they mean "self-deprecation." It's all in the level of the humor. Most guys, including the ones in my family, like potty humor more than women do. We women simply have higher standards. Right, Bonnie? I'm with you & all the other funny women everywhere (and we are legion!).
