... why there were relatively few posts here until just a few minutes ago - well, more layoffs were announced today, and in fact it has proved to be an even worse day than yesterday, which is saying something.
So I plan on taking another night off from blogging, in the hope that I can get back into focus by tomorrow.
My (belated as usual) condolences, Frank. Hopefully those who are experiencing these hard times will find something of a silver lining somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to learn of this, Frank. It must be very difficult.
ReplyDeleteYes, my condolences too. Sometimes this sort of thing feels close to a bereavement.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of this horrible and unsettling situation.
ReplyDeleteI know it seems trite but sometimes things that appear totally negative have a wider and deeper significance beyond the obvious. I hope this is the case for everyone caught up in this mess.
Oh and happy new year and thanks for all your support in 2006!
Well, I just entered the world of job-related stress with you, hopefully something very short-lived. The GSM is leaving here Friday, and a new one starting Saturday. We're about to go into a meeting, and the word from higher up is there are going to be some changes. That might be simply preparatory words of caring, or forboding an earthquake, the fault line running up from Philly.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about this, Frank--even us dirty alt-weekly types feel your pain. It's a blow to the entire journalism community.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts with you and your colleagues still, Frank.
ReplyDeleteThanks again to all of you. It really is very much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteNo, it will cause no survivors' guilt, absolutely none, just fear and anger, except among those who think the latter would simply not be constructive.
ReplyDeleteThe paper's new editor, who is the only good thing to happen to the Philadelphia Inquirer in recent months except for the more than acceptable free coffee, told me today that he wants optimistic interpretations of his office furnishings. (I had suggested that a poster of Connie Mack Stadium, a baseball park that was once loved but now no longer exists, was not the most appropriate choice for a newspaper that is being systematically defoliated by its new owners.) I promise all of you that when a single reason for optimism makes itself apparent, you will hear about it from me. But don't hold your breath.
