I actually don't think it's a good idea to go to school to learn how to write. I think it's best to read a lot and look around you and observe carefully what's going on and then just sit down and write ... and write ... and write.
Maybe school might save you some deadends and detours, but then again, maybe those detours teach you even more about writing.
ReplyDeleteLet's say someone already reads a lot, observes carefully, and writes and writes and writes. Wouldn't it then be like a musical intrument, that someone, not everyone, might want to go to graduate school for, and benefit from it?
ReplyDeleteI just tend to think that turning writing into an academic discipline diminishes it as an art.
