Sir Clement's stock of jokes and anecdotes was inexhaustible. His mishaps offered a particularly rich seam for his humour. When adjudicating a tug-of-war at a local fête, he jovially urged one exhausted participant to get up again. The man turned out to be dead.
I remember seeing, years ago, on talk shows over here.
