FYI . . . the quoted language from The Looking Glass War is said by a cynical and wary East German to a stranger (whom he suspects of being up to no good -- and he is, in fact, a spy sent from England). Come to think of it, perhaps the quoted sentence says something about anyone who either 100% good or 100% bad -- that kind of zealous commitment is often dangerous.
