Sigh
I've been asked about the Jenner thing and I was kind of hoping it would blow over but no... IMHO - I may be in the minority here -- and my trans paranoia may be flashing unfairly -- but this is bothersome to me personally, as a member of the trans woman community. I am tainted by this coming out. A client, a friend, knowing I'm a trans woman, now sees me as the sum total of .... lingerie? Which is a difficult mental position for me to then deal with, when trying to change the opinion of the other about us. Jenner now has created that sexual image about trans women when she could have created a much more beneficial one. sigh. Yea I don't think this is a great thing for us, sorry. She is about service to others, by her own statement, but this is creating implications of hurt for me and many other members in a community she professes to care about. She has to consider what she does in light of that...to those who much is given, much is expected...
I am so glad to hear you say this - when I saw the cover of Vanity Fair I felt really cross. For such a long time, women have been trying to explain that we don't want to be objectified and judged by how we look with very few clothes on. Then comes along this person who suggests that a terribly important element of being a woman for her is not just looking amazing in a bathing suit but making sure we all see her and admire her looking amazing. A peacock (but of course it is the males of that species who indulge in such show-off behaviour).
