Here is a typical profile for a young engineer: He or she is “good at math,” builds obsessively with Legos, likes making things and solving problems. Their sensibilities tend to be active and pragmatic, not passive and self-absorbed, and are equally at home in theory and application. For them, the physical world is a dynamic place, and they are trained to think and act with comparable dynamism.

All true, and quite admirable. But I have known some engineers quite well, and they do have a tendency to see all problems as engineering problems. The problem with that is that most are problems are not.
