All this proves is that the "scientific" solution to a problem may have little bearing on reality. I have been drinking coffee for 70 years, and have rarely spilled any, and I use the handle on my cup. Gripping it from above may prevent spilling — until you try to drink it, which was the reason you picked it up in the first place.
A few minutes of online research revealed that Achievements in the Life Sciences is a typical "vanity" journal, hundreds of which exist on the fringes of the legitimate scientific press. They provide a way for mediocre researchers to pad their CV's, often in return for a publication fee. In this case, both editorial services and peer review are provided by a single entity, the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok. The journal's website states "The main condition for acceptance is achievement of message." WTF does that mean?! No mention of originality, scientific importance, research quality or any of the other characteristics of meaningful scientific research. Must have been a slow news day at the old Telegraph. Or maybe they're simply lazy-ass journalists.

ReplyDeleteThanks for that information. I think many journalists are credulous when it comes to anything labeled "science." As for achievement of message, beats me.
