…  while not achieving full dystopian status, Hitler’s Germany and Stalin’s Soviet Union shared some goals and are creepiliy similar, although starting from different ends of the political spectrum.

But did they really start "from different ends of the political spectrum"?  Hitler's party was called National Socialist. It was a blend of socialism and nationalism. Ostensibly, the Soviet Union was the exemplar of international socialism (remember the full name was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). But Soviet foreign policy was identical to the Czars' nationalist foreign policy.
