Today, pairing classical music and sadism is so common that it deserves an entry in the Official Handbook of Hollywood Clichés.
When I was in grade school, being taught by the nuns of the Society of the Sacred Heart, the message we were given was that a knowledge and appreciation of classical music was a mark of being civilized.
