The swelling political consensus on vaccine mandates intentionally ignores the enormous spread of the virus after two years of pandemic and the consequent natural immunity of large sections of the population, irrespective of vaccination status. This same consensus obfuscates the fact that natural immunity is most likely to prove longer-lasting and more effective against any variants of Covid that continue to emerge. And the consensus distracts from the inconvenient fact that the short-lived efficacy of the current vaccines means everyone is potentially “unclean” and a plague carrier, as the new variant Omicron is underscoring only too clearly.

Very much in what he says …
… The left’s contempt for bodily autonomy during the pandemic is a gift to the right. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.]
Conservatives, moderates, and liberals alike have contempt for the deadly virus. It has nothing to do with contempt for "bodily autonomy". Indeed, anyone who has contempt for the virus, ought to be allowed their own "bodily autonomy", to be free to go outside without risking encountering Covid spreaders. Valuing life and health too, is not a political stance on the left or the right. All legitimate political stances in the USA are about how to make it so that we all can have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, precisely what a killer virus gets in the way of, killing well over a million of us in this country alone already.
ReplyDeleteThe virus is apolitical. It has no opinion. It is simply able to cause hospitalizations, vital organ damage, and kill us far easier when we are unvaccinated. Furthermore, for those conservatives, moderates and liberals equally, when vaccinated, the toughest among us to kill are the ones who have had our booster shots. This is too easy to understand.
Furthermore still, someone who has a booster shot, but contracts the virus, will be contagious for a shorter period of time. Thus, Mayor Wu: Boston requiring proof of vaccination for certain indoor spaces. Those of us who do not want to participate in spreading or catching the virus, can take heart that "The city of Boston will now require proof of vaccination for indoor dining, indoor fitness venues, and indoor entertainment and recreation establishments starting January 15, 2022." Come to Boston. We believers says, God Bless America and thank God for the vaccines.
