I shoot my mouth off ...

... to Liz Lopatto of The Kenyon Review: An Interview with Frank Wilson, Part I.

I don't know how I come off in this (probably as a garrulous old fool), but I must say that Liz sure impressed me.

Update: To Maxine - Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. In mentioning bloggers I have had review for me - and noting that I was sure I had forgotten some - the one I certainly should not have forgotten and did was the first ever and the one who has reviewed most for me: Maxine. Also Vikram. More are coming to me even now. But you get the idea. I said I was getting old.

Update II: I am grateful for the kind words that have been posted about this, but I think, as someone who has done his share of interviews, that a good deal of the credit goes to the interviewer.

This is a great interview with you, Frank. It has the virtue of actually *sounding* like you do when you talk. Too bad they can't do audio for your laugh though: It's the most distinctive one in the newsroom. When you laugh, heads turn!

Great to see you in the Kenyon Review, Frank. Since you asked...I too found McEwan's "Saturday" pretty unsatisfactory. But that's been my reaction to almost all of his recent work, and I'm at a loss to understand his increasing reputation with critics. He used to be outrageous and unpredictable and scary -- and just generally enjoyable. Then he started to write like every other literate Englishman -- admittedly, a high standard -- and now he's a yawn. Was "Saturday" his first disappointing book, for you?

    Cheers,

    John Morris

Frank, you are only a silly billy in calling yourself a garrulous old fool, you are totally the opposite, as I have already posted on Petrona. The world needs more like you.

For heavens' sake, you don't have any reason whatsoever to cite me as a reviewer, and it was very early in the morning as you said. Just relax, enjoy the kudos, and let us all admire!

  4. Thanks, John. I lost your email. Send it to me, will you? If you forgot my home email, send it to the one on this blog. I need to ask you a couple of things.
