I don't think this is entirely true. But it's not entirely untrue. Virtue being defined by what people say, and the soundbites masking unpalatable attitudes that people have but won't express, is a real problem.
Sorry, Frank -- although TD can certainly write, he is so extreme that I can't believe anyone is really the way he depicts them. He's a modern Hogarth.

What Rob says also touches upon a truth: Blair does what he has to do - and happens to be good at - to retain power, which he must do in order to do anything. Little attention has been paid to politics from the viewpoint of those who practice it. We need a latter-day Trollope or Disraeli.
