I've stayed there myself. Seem to recall that the room was a wonderful demonstration of how much you can do with a closet. And yes, checking in does take longer than necessary.
On first staying at the Hudson a couple of years ago, I described it to a friend as being somewhat like living in a near future as designed by Haruki Murakami and Wong Kar-Wai. Not my sort of place to settle down, but fascinating to visit.
