Why not C.S. Lewis's Out of the Silent Planet (as well as Perelandra and That Hideous Strength -- his science fiction trilogy) over the Narnia stories?
One might forgive a list such as this focusing on best-sellers, because that's probably all any reader or critic unfamiliar with the genres of F&SF might be expected to know about. On the other hand, putting in some more unfamiliar titles (including those not yet made into movies) would perhaps expand the reader's knowledge and interest. At least LeGuin's Earthsea is in there, for example.
