The famous saying 'God is love', it is generally assumed, means that God is like our immediate emotional indulgence, not that the meaning of love ought to have something of the 'otherness' and terror of God.

  1. Is there, however, a scriptural provenance for "God is love," or has that become another of those misreadings of original text?

I defer to you since my reading of the Bible is incomplete, and I believe anything that is not predicated upon original text ought to be considered with a healthy skepticism.

  2. "7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

"8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."
