Well, at one time it was quite a hub of American poetry: Williams and Pound and HD at Penn, Marianne Moore just up the road at Bryn Mawr, Millay there also if you like her.
But I admire the lively debate on the arts in Philadelphia. Some years ago, when the city proposed to have painted a mural of Frank Sinatra, a local independent newspaper pointed out that Sinatra was from Camden, and proposed instead a mural of Moe Fein. This paper got tremendous popular support, some in the form of telephone calls consisting solely of "Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck!"
