Problematic …

… Instapundit — Blog Archive — JACOB SULLUM: Did Dharun Ravi Commit a Hateless Hate Crime? The mob was angry and demanded a sacrifice …

Vikram has posted about this case, and he and I have exchanged emails about it, so I thought I'd link to these opinions by law professors.

  1. Frank, the trouble with this case is that it has become an emotive issue for the vast number of people who face bullying because of their alternate sexuality. And Ravi seems to be paying for this surge of emotion. At any rate, the case is problematic, as you rightly mention. As I mentioned in the emails we exchanged, that Tyler killed himself was a subjective decision made under circumstances only he knew, but because the chain of events was started by Ravi, he is, rightly in my view, the source of blame.
