By nature I am suspicious of literary prizes, and, in this case, I remain unconvinced--especially because the relevance of the award(s) is being argued by Salon. Were I to draw up a list of hundreds of trusted, unbiased sources of information about literary matters, Salon would be very far down on that list. Then, when I had considered Salon's opinions, I would most likely ignore them. How is that for overstating the argument against Salon?
