I am more surprised that he became a Catholic than that he has no plans to resume being one. Actually, he seems never to have really been one. The preoccupation with preaching and failings of the clergy and hierarchy is actually more Protestant than Catholic. I go to Mass for the miracle. That would be the Consecration, when the bread and wine become the body and blood of Jesus. That the priest is able to do this is the only thing that really distinguishes him, and he is empowered to do it even if he is himself an absolute dirtbag. Of course, you have to be a Catholic to understand any of this.
