If Tanenhaus seems partial to Chambers, it is probably because, having written an outstanding biography of Chambers, he knows that Chambers was an estimable figure. And, of the former leftists who found safe haven among the conservatives, Chambers probably had the greatest influence. As for that "fanatical style," Tanenhaus should take a look at the PC left these days. He should also read Ronald Reagan: A Life in Letters.
