My name is Nils Wandels. I am a journalism studies Ph.D. candidate at Drexel University and the University of Brussels. First of all, my apologies for reaching out to you in the comments section – I was unable to find another way to get in touch.
I am reaching out to ask you whether you would be willing to discuss your tenure as a literary critic at the Philadelphia Inquirer.
My doctoral research is aimed at examining the development of journalistic autonomy in the U.S. since 1980. More specifically, I examine the tension between journalism as an independent professional activity on the one hand, and the organizational and political context wherein it is practiced on the other. My primary source materials for analysis are interviews with (former) editors and journalists at legacy news media organizations.
Because of your track record at the Inquirer, your testimony would be of great value for the development of my research thesis.
The interview would take about one and a half hours, and can take place in person or via zoom at a time of your convenience.
