At last ...

... my review of War and Peace is up.

And here are the other reviews in Sunday's Inquirer:

Maile Meloy's A Family Daughter

  1. Great review, Frank - it really brought back the story to me, which I'd forgotten in any detail at all. Yes, it has made me want to read the book again. Help!

  2. I just saw your comment, Maxine, right after I had posted a link to Petrona. Thanks much for the kind words. It is the second compliment I have got today on that piece and I am especially grateful for them because I was not terribly satisfied when I finished my review. Quite simply, one realizes that 36 column inches is hardly enough space within which to do justice to so great a work. Perhaps I should post something about how often finishing an article can be followed by a kind of postpartum depression.

It has been years since I read Tolstoy's masterpiece. I think you have really captured its essence and discriptively explained it's multilayered storyline. Nice work!
