Big bucks for young poet ...

... 28-year-old Welsh writer Rachel Trezise is the first-time winner of EDS Dylan Thomas Prize 2006. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

Thomas himself would have loved winning £60,000. He could have lifted many a few with that in his account.

    Yes, ironic isn't it. Dylan Thomas survived mostly on handouts when he wrote and now there's a huge Dylan Thomas industry, especially in Swansea, just down the road from me.

    There must be hundreds, possibly thousands, of people employed in the tourist industry and in academia on the back of the poor bugger's words.
