Perhaps the only intelligent political post ....

... you will read today: Why is it important to vote?

Of course, I did vote this morning. But so much of what Maxine says is so true - especially what she says about the media.

  1. Having moved last October, I forgot all about registering in my new district until it was too late to guarantee being on the rolls for this election. So, I left my registration where it was and drove the hour back to my former district in order to vote yesterday. (I also took my grandmother to lunch, so the drive worked out well as a twofor).

Personally, I see voting as one of the most important duties I can do as a citizen. I'm not ambitious enough to be directly involved in politics, so my vote helps contribute to the future of government, whether for good or bad. It's a shame, really, that more don't vote when you think about other countries where people are denied choices, about our forefathers starting a war over representation, about suffragettes protesting in the streets less than 100 years ago. But, I suppose memory is short and comfort too easy.

  2. Hi Marydell,
Obviously, I care enough about voting to do it. But I have concluded that people invest in politics and the political process far more - especially in the way of emotional capital - than can ever be returned. Perhaps this is because I'm an anarchist at heart. But my reaction to this election is plus ca change plus c'est la meme chose. And I believe I will be proved right.

  3. D'accord, Frank. I agree that things likely aren't going to change much, but I'm an optimist. I hold onto the hope that a hero will come along.

Thanks for the link, Frank. And I have been told off (in the nicest possible way) by rather a lot of people in my comments!
