A bit farther north than that, at Montrose Beach, the lake this weekend offered an Arctic view, a chunky landscape of ice stretching from the shore. As the waves, dotted with ice, approached it, they thickened and slowed before breaking over it, ever-so-slowly extending its reach.
It made enduring the blisteringly cold wind on the mile-long jog from my house worth it.
