.. in my backyard in South Philly - as urban an area as you are likely to find - one of these guys is hopping about. Seems to come by every year around this time.
What a handsome fellow! Too-wit, too-wee -- that must be their call I hear sometimes. This a.m. we have a troupe of robins hopping over the backyard yanking up worms. The cardinals are back, too, though the insane squirrels have scared the finches off the feeder i put up outside the dining room windows. It was *supposed* to be squirrel-proof, but the squirrels have figured out a way to hang onto the tree (from which the feeder depends from a long bracket) with their back feet and only very lightly brace against the feeder, hence being able to eat the seed without pulling down the bar that would block them.
Frank, do you have squirrels down there in South Philly? I think they're going to take over the world with their ingenuity.
