Despite the article's citing of Visconti's Death in Venice with the qualifier it is "arguably" Dirk Bogarde's "most-famous" film, IMO, Liliana Cavani's masterpiece (and, my numero-uno filmeruno), Il Portiere di notte (1974), doesn't merit mention in the appended Timeline.
Breath-gaspingly devastatingly brilliant cinematic eloquence, elegance, and heart-stopping gorgeosity to the Nth degree. I highly recommend it to anyone (and, tellingly, even though I don't own a television, I do own a copy of the film on VHS which I sometimes badger my neighbour to allow me to watch on his set). Charlotte Rampling, BTW, stars opposite a magnificent Bogarde in this one.
Tagline: "The most controversial picture of our time!"

Lots of clips concerning this "biblical" epic on YouTube if one searches on The Night Porter and Liliana Cavani.
