  3. Hehe . . . Susan, was thinking exactly that, I mean, exactly that he had one too many until it further occurred to me that he really didn't have any, did he?

The most telling detail in that piece was the way the monster-death-monger howled and whimpered.

This is the way that world ends; not with a bang but a parched whisper :).

p.s. Had a lovely moment of little joy, BTW, thinking how good you must be feeling when I heard The Hemingses of Monticello won the NBA award (proving the jury got something right NTM the fact "our" [read, "your"] taste in literature's impeccable :))
p.p.s. How's the work on the translations coming? Just nosey (and, only if you have un momento por favor . . .)

I'm still reading the penultimate novel -- Ingo Schulze's "New Lives" -- but taking a break because I have a house full of guests, relatives & friends, to see my son in his h.s.'s production of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (he is Gooper). Last night and tonight, great show. Today I am making a turkey, stuffing, all the trimmings for the houseful, so I'm kinda nuts. But thanks for asking, Judith. When (if) my life calms down, I'll be here more often.....
