Helen Vendler Renders Judgment . . .

. . . on Durs Grünbein's Ashes for Breakfast in a review essay that originally appeared in The New Republic; as well, she addresses the issues confronting any sensible and sensitive translator. (More reviewers might take a page from this particular Vendler book.)
p.s. Thanks, Lee, knew I'd forgotten sumlaut :) . . . (Happy to see you, though!)

  1. I was so glad to come across Vendler's piece. Grünbein is a favourite.

  2. Judith, your zany wordplay is one of many reasons I keep coming back for more, ahem, punishment. As Vendler says of Hofmann, 'springy on the page' (well, in this case, screen).
