Well, we can hardly expect politicians to be protective of language. But the media could call them on on their abuse of it - and not just selectively, for motives of partisanship. The media should, of course, eschew motives of partisanship. But, because it has long since ceased to do so, it has contributed more than any other group in our society to language's debasement.
