If it is possible to love someone you never knew or could have known, then I love Tchaikovsky. When I was I was young and very lonely, his music gave me solace. I have, ever since, felt a certain loyalty to him, and when I have heard others dismiss his music as sentimental or bombastic, I have felt felt compelled to speak up in his defense.
