Mr. Emerson, if he were alive today, might want to fine-tune his assessment of America; the Transcendentalist's use of the word "opportunity" sounds so positive in all of its denotations and connotations in the 19th century, but I wonder what he would think of its not-so-positive denotations now in the 21st century.
