I do all sorts of things that are ecologically virtuous. But that isn't the reason I do them. I buy food that I am pretty sure willtaste good. I am will to pay a little more for - Maverick Ranch steaks, for instance, which are grass-fed and wonderful. But what this story really brings to mind is the apparently incurable tendency among humans to draw up codes and rules and insist that everyone obey them. Well, the law was made for man, not the reverse. There is no to-do list that will open heaven's gates.
