I'm a few years younger than Jack Rossi, but out backgrounds are virtually identical (I started at St. Veronica's, also staffed by the Immaculate Heart nuns) and what he writes here I can vouch for. His book is an excellent account of what it was like to grow up working-class in mid-20th century Philadelphia. Highly recommended.
