The Forgotten (Violent) Decade

More from Germany in the 1970s...

  1. I was station in Scotland while serving in the U.S. Navy in 1974-1975. I traveled to Germany, Italy and Spain during those years.

I recall the fear the Europeans felt due to the terroristic acts of the RAF, the IRA and the other terrorist groups. It was indeed a violent time.

After the RAF hit an American military base, we were on alert to guard against future attacks.

Long before 9/11, we in the military knew it would only be a matter of time before terrorism would strike American shores.

I recently saw "The Baader Meinhof Complex" on cable TV and I thought it was one of the best films about terrorism.

The film, in German with subtitles, was historically accurate and well made.
