Interesting exchange ...

... POLIWOOD.

I was a mere 31 when I first saw Last Tango in Paris. At the time I was almost criminally hip - actually, considering the drugs I was indulging in, I actually was criminally hip. I thought the movie was boring, pretentious crap then and never found reason to change my mind.

  1. Frank,

I'm a bit younger than than you, but I too disliked the film, although I recall that Brando made me laugh once twice.

But I loved gato Barbieri's jazz soundtrack. I have the tape and I still play it every now and again.

  2. Yeah, I chuckled a bit, too, Paul. But I think the humor was unintentional.

  3. Yes, I agree, the humor was unintentional. The film was supposed to be serious and meaningful, but as you noted, the film was pretentious.

The film was also unsexy, in my view.

One critic, I don't recall who, wrote that the film was also dishonest, as the film was really about a homosexual relationship.

The young girl, despite her large breasts, was very boyish.

    Good Gato Barbieri soundtrack though...
