  1. I'm curious when he said this, Frank. It seems to be from 1964's CHILDREN AND OTHERS -- a volume of short stories. In light of the fact that the now forgotten Dwight Macdonald killed Cozzens's career (and, according to Blake Bailey, paved the way for John Cheever to win the National Book Award in 1957 -- because Cozzens's rep was stinging in the aftermath), it's an interesting quote.
