I have never understood why a person should be forbidden to put into his body whatever he chooses -- and pay the consequences if things go awry. In other words, if you knowingly drink and drive and hurt someone, the drink should not mitigate the nature of the crime.
I'd always vaguely thought prohibition was the problem but I was interested by the response of Ed Vulliamy - who seems to know a thing or two about the problem - in this interesting interview:
