Taranto makes some good points about civility. He is far more convincing than Reynolds, frankly, because Reynolds is basically just being reactionary as usual. Taranto's points about how for a more civil discourse are contradicted on all fronts by other statements from the same sources is well-taken.
On the other hand, maybe it's just that I'm a Midwesterner, but this all still seems uncivil to me. it's not the way people talk to each other in Lake Wobegon, it's just not.
