Orwell and Judt

An interesting comparison between the two...

  1. "As Judt’s book relates, the raucously polemical century began with the obviously malign thinkers on the right such as the antisemitic newspaper editor Edouard Drumant and the fascist Robert Brasillach."

I hope that Judt's book related no such thing. Brasillach was born in 1909, and the other spelled his last name Drumont. Is the reviewer engaging Judt's ideas, or taking what he noticed in browsing as a point of departure for his own musings?

  2. To say that the excesses of Communism are in any way comparable to the current crisis in capitalism is to bring the debate to a point of absolute incomprehension! Frankly, complaining about the problems with the export of capitalism is like dissing the caviar on an otherwise delicious meal.
