Watch your language ...

... Learning the Lingo Ahead of Super Tuesday - WSJ.com.


Some years ago, when I was in Elko, covering the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, I quickly learned — after I had made reference to Nevahda — that the state's natives call it Nevaada (the "a" pronounced as it is in "back." I should think anyone who nows classical music —and, in particular, Saint-Saëns's Jota Aragonese — would know that the jota is a dance. I like learning how the locals pronounce things, and I try to remember to pronounce them that way myself.
