Uh-oh …

… Maybe the Pulitzers Ran Out of Writers — Commentary Magazine. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

  1. Hi Frank, I am always divided about this. Should the best performance be rewarded every year, or should new talent be encouraged? Meryl Streep has been nominated for the Best Actress Oscar 17 times, and won it twice (her third is for a supporting role). Now Streep is a thespian of the highest quality, but would I grudge the other victors their prizes? I am not sure. If i was a budding writer and had come upp with a novel that was a breakthrough of some sort, but maybe not the best in terms of literary skill, i would not mind being awarded as a means to encourage me.

  2. I think the prize is about who the judges think did the best work that came out in a given year. But this is the 10th time an award has not been given.
