Like many, I was appalled by what Mary had to say after 9/11, namely, that America had it coming. But people are not of a piece. And Mary is extremely good at her profession. Her book on the Roman triumph is necessary reading if you want to understand the ancient inhabitants of that city on the Tiber. As for Gill's remarks, they are best ignored.
